On February 9, 2026, Dr. Milda Ališauskienė began her work as the Director of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences.
The newly elected director was congratulated by Raminta Popovienė, the Minister of Education, Science, and Sports. “I am pleased to see that the Center is growing stronger every year, expanding its scientific potential and influencing important state decisions. I hope the Center continues to strengthen its activities in a targeted manner and becomes a well-recognized research center in Lithuania and beyond,” the minister said.
Dr. Ališauskienė is a sociologist and professor in the Department of Sociology at Vytautas Magnus University. She has taught at various foreign universities and interned under the Fulbright program at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2016 and at the Aleksanteri Institute at the University of Helsinki in 2021. She was awarded the National Equality and Diversity Award in 2015 and 2019 and the Ministry of Justice Award for Merit in the Field of Human Rights in 2024.
The Minister of Education, Science, and Sports, R. Popovienė, thanked the outgoing director, Dr. Boguslavs Gruževskis, for his purposeful leadership in managing the center, strengthening its scientific potential and internationality, and contributing to research on population, employment, the labor market, and social policy.
