The Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences (LCSS) in Vilnius offers PhD study programmes in sociology and economics. Motivated holders of a Master’s degree in sociology or economics (or a related field) or with equivalent higher education are invited to apply for the open call for admission to PhD programmes.
Applicants to PhD studies may submit their research projects in the following areas of LCSS research.
– Topics in the field of sociology: social policy, welfare state and labour market; demographic structures and processes; societal developments and social inequalities; regional socio-economic development.
– Topics in the field of economics: resource economics; agricultural policy; sustainable food systems; business ecosystems; social innovation. PhD applicants may also submit research projects on other topics after discussion with potential PhD supervisors in the relevant fields at the LCSS.
Doctoral studies are funded by the state and PhD students are paid scholarships: first-year PhD students are paid state-funded scholarships in the amount of 19 Basic Social Allowances (EUR 874); the scholarship for the second to fourth years of doctoral studies amounts to 22 Basic Social Allowances (EUR 1012). The graduates of doctoral studies are awarded doctoral degrees in sociology or economics.
PhD students can also study in English, although the knowledge of Lithuanian is an advantage.
